Residents of Vihiga county have been left in shock after the deputy chief was attacked and left with serious injuries.

The Deputy Head of Kigama Sub-County, Moses Mbarani, was cut with knives and left with serious injuries following a violent confrontation with his neighbor.
According to earlier reports, the suspect, named Boge Odera, was arrested shortly after the attack and was taken into custody at the Mudete Police Station.
What caused the violent confrontation in Vihiga?
The incident occurred following concerns about the production and sale of illegal local alcohol known as changa.
Residents say tension was rising between the two men after the deputy chief allegedly intervened to prevent illegal activities in the area.

During the attack, Mbarani was cut by swords on his head and hands and also suffered a serious wound on his left ear, which was left hanging after the attack.
The National Government Administrative Officers (NGAO) were immediately rushed to the hospital by members of the community for immediate treatment.
Mbarani is currently receiving treatment at Kaimosi Community Hospital, where doctors are monitoring his condition.
Medical staff have not yet released details of their assessment of the extent of his injuries, but sources indicate he required immediate treatment on arrival.
Is insecurity increasing in Vihiga county?
Residents who spoke about the incident linked the attack to the efforts of local officials to enforce the law against illegal alcohol.
They claimed that the deputy chief was opposing the production and sale of chlorinated bivalves in the area.
“He was attacked because he was looking for illegal words. But also the lack of security has increased in Vihiga County. Someone is attacked or killed every day,” a resident of Vihiga told TUKO.co.ke.
Another resident expressed concern about the growing risks facing local leaders, noting that managers often resolve conflicts, roles that put them in conflict.

They expressed fear about their fate if those who depend on them to protect them are the ones who face such brutal attacks.
“If those in the administration are attacked, it means that the common man is in more danger.. they should go to them for conflict resolution and the more it ends, especially land issues, family issues, borders, etc.,” said another resident.
Cases of insecurity Vihiga
In the last few weeks, the residents of Vihiga have become worried due to the insecurity cases that never end in the area.
On January 13, two unidentified bodies were found in a sewage tank near Mbale Police Station, which left many questioning how such a crime could happen near law enforcement.
A day later, Geofry Muhandare was seriously injured during a violent robbery in the Chavakali-Keveye area, where bandits attacked him and stole his motorcycle.
Two weeks later, a young boy identified as Jayden disappeared from the Muhudu area, but his dead body was found in an abandoned ditch.
On the same day, the body of a 30-year-old man was recovered from the Izava River in Sabatia Sub-County, a discovery made by local miners near the Walodeya-Bukulunya border.
