Moses Wetang’ula Officially Announces the Death of Member of Parliament Johanna Ng’eno: “With Great Regret”

The Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetang’ula has officially announced the death of the Member of Parliament for Emurwa Dikkir Johanna Ng’eno.

In an official statement to parliament, the speaker confirmed that Ng’eno died in a helicopter crash on Saturday, February 28.

Below is the speaker’s statement;

It is with great sadness that I inform Parliament and the entire community of Members of Parliament about the sudden and tragic death of the Member of Parliament for Emurua Dikirr State, the late Honorable Johana Ng’eno Kipyegon, Member of Parliament for CBS, who along with five others lost their lives in a helicopter accident that occurred today, Saturday, February 28, 2026, at about 4:45pm, in Mosop, Nandi County.

The late Mr. Johana Ng’eno was serving his third consecutive term in Parliament, after being elected for the first time in 2013.

Until his untimely death, he served honorably as the Chairman of the Department of Housing, Town Planning and Public Works Committee as well as a Member of the Liaison Committee.

In the 12th Parliament, he served as a Member of the Committee on Justice and Legal Affairs.

Under his leadership, the Committee on Housing, Urban Planning and Public Works contributed greatly to the adoption of the Affordable Housing Act, 2024 which established a framework for the development and access to good and affordable housing for Kenyans.

Hon. Johana Ng’eno, Member of Parliament was born in 1972 and attended Mogondo Primary School before proceeding to Maseno National School for her secondary studies.

He later pursued higher education obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in International Law from Kyiv TSN University in the country Ukraineand later continued his studies in Kenya with a Master’s Degree in International Studies from the University of Nairobi, a Bachelor’s Degree in Law from Mount Kenya University and a Master’s Degree from the Kenya School of Law.

In September 2025, Hon. Ng’eno was admitted to practice as an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya.

On behalf of the House of Representatives, the Parliamentary Services Commission and on my own behalf, I offer our condolences to the family and friends of the late Hon. Ng’eno and the families of other passengers whose lives we have also lost.
