Murad Awadh Mbaraka was found guilty of killing his wife, Nuru Ibrahim, in their marital home in Majengo Kanamai.

Mbaraka brutally killed Nuru because of having an internet account Instagramas reported by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

The DPP said they “won a big victory” after the High Court in Mombasa sentenced Mbaraka to 30 years in prison.

Mbaraka was found guilty of killing his wife

“In the judgment handed down by Judge Wendy Kagendo Micheni at the High Court in Mombasa, 40-year-old Murad Awadh Mbaraka was found guilty of killing his wife, Nuru Ibrahim, following ongoing domestic disputes, including a disagreement over her use of Instagram.

The DPP, through Senior Prosecutor Frank Sirima, presented a complex case based on the testimony of ten witnesses. “The prosecution has shown beyond reasonable doubt that the accused acted maliciously and deliberately on the night of June 19, 2022,” the post said.

The publication added that the evidence presented before the court showed that Nuru was brutally attacked in front of her five children.

Mbaraka’s child does not hear his mother’s screams without help.

One of their children, aged 11, remembered with sadness his mother’s screams for help when she was attacked by her husband that terrible night.

“Forensic analysis placed the accused directly at the scene, confirming the presence of the deceased’s blood on the knife, broken pieces of the baby bed allegedly used in the attack, and on the accused’s clothes. Witnesses also refuted the defense’s narrative that an attacker was involved, while the accused’s employer denied his incident of feigning innocence.

Judge Micheni held that the defendant’s conduct showed a deliberate and violent intent, emphasizing the seriousness of the offense. He noted that the sentence is a punishment and deterrent against domestic violence,” the post concluded.

Internet users are reacting to Mbaraka’s prison sentence.

Mbaraka was given 14 days to appeal. Social media users flooded the comments section to share their thoughts, while others asked unanswered questions.

“Was there a presentation report, and if so, does it play an important role in the delivery of justice that deserves mention?”

“He deserves it. Now we want to see you go after politicians who are stealing public funds. Or is that where you draw the line?”

Marlick Kheri:

“Many people use social media platforms in inappropriate ways. Although it is not enough reason to kill your spouse. Yes, we need to know the real and detailed truth about the deceased’s death, not half evidence.”

Nyambura Muhia:

“He was talking to his cousin when he was killed. But the man didn’t want him on any social media platforms.”

“Phones are one of the biggest enemies of marriage. You find spouses putting passwords on their phones, hiding them when they are close to their partners and sometimes they delete the conversation before giving their phones to their partners. These days people don’t connect much because social networks, phones and technology have dominated the family. I have dealt with many cases of married people refusing to trust their partners with their phones. It is bad,” he said.
