The woman, now known as Olivia, caused widespread concern after reports surfaced on social media showing the Kenyan national allegedly stranded at a busy Malaysian airport.

How Olivia’s story became famous

Posts shared on Facebook by X quickly went viral, with many expressing concern about his confusion and vulnerability.

Airport officials reported that when she was first found, Olivia appeared depressed and could only remember one phrase.

He could not remember his full name, his family, or how he traveled to Malaysia, raising fears for his safety and well-being.

Following the reports, the Kenyan Embassy in Kuala Lumpur quickly took steps to find him and help him.

How was Olivia saved?

He was taken to hospital, where doctors confirmed that he was healthy, although he continued to experience memory loss.

Officials from the General Consulate visited him at the hospital and began efforts to find his identity and contact his loved ones.

Their intervention quickly bore fruit, and his family was successfully identified and informed.

The Permanent Secretary for Diaspora Affairs, Roseline Njogu, confirmed the rescue and praised the diplomatic team for their quick response.

“I can confirm that our Kenyan Embassy in Kuala Lumpur intervened quickly and saved him. He is receiving treatment, and the family has been notified. Good job, team,” he said.

Good trip to Olivia?

According to officials, Olivia can communicate in Kiswahili, English, and Kikuyu, which helped authorities determine her identity and background.

The government reiterated that protecting the welfare and rights of Kenyans abroad remains an important responsibility of its diplomatic missions.
