A South Sudanese man known as Lamba has sparked a heated debate on the internet after making controversial statements about Kenyans’ understanding of the English language.
In an interview broadcast on Saturday, February 21, through On The Boat Network’s YouTube channel, Lamba addressed several issues, including his previous statements comparing Uganda and South Sudan.
He said that telling the truth shouldn’t be a mistake, even if it makes people angry.

“A young man can play drums while the elders dance. You can tell your elders the truth. Uganda is better than South Sudan, that is the truth, and if you are angry with them then you may not have the mental capacity to deal with other issues,” he said.
Lamba went further by suggesting a change of presidents, claiming that Yoweri Museveni can solve the problems facing South Sudan.
He also touched on the challenges of his country, saying that ethnic conflicts often end in armed retaliation.
Do Kenyans know English?
Later, Lamba pointed the blame at Kenyans, questioning their understanding of English.
“Kenyans have a problem with English. If you go to their comment section, everything is in Kiswahili.”
The announcer tried to explain that Kenyans choose to use Kiswahili voluntarily, but Lamba rejected the argument.
“They don’t choose. They don’t know English. You can’t argue with a Kenyan who finishes a sentence in English without adding a Kiswahili word. Therefore, Uganda is further ahead (in understanding English).”
The statements sparked strong reactions on TikTok, where many Kenyans came forward to criticize him, while a few seemed to support his attitude.
Some Kenyan comments:
- TRIPLE G:We cannot argue with a country that has never had a national funeral.”
- It is tomorrow: “Kenyans know good English, but they love Kiswahili.”
- Chief Gan: “I am a South Sudanese, but Kenya is ahead of South Sudan and Uganda.”
- LOML: “It’s true, I’m in Nairobi right now and I’m facing that; they speak to me in Kiswahili.”
The debate continued to gain momentum with some insisting that Kenya is a country with two official languages—Kiswahili and English—and the use of Kiswahili online does not indicate a lack of understanding of English.
