Nyatuka explained that on the day of the incident, tension arose between him and his roommate regarding the payment of rent for their private room and their argument led to a fight that changed the course of his life.
Speaking to Simon Kibe on Jamba TV, the student who is expected to finish his sentence next month said that his roommate hit him first and he responded to defend himself and to luck badly he fell on the floor.
“I didn’t think that I pushed him badly, because he was bigger than me. When he was on the floor, I even needed him to be able to wake up and come to hit me because that’s what he wanted. However, he didn’t wake up. I left the room and came back later. I found him still lying on the floor, then I started to worry,” he said.
Nyatuka said he tried to check on his roommate and found that he was unresponsive.
“I ran to the neighbors to ask for help to take him to the hospital. The neighbors asked what happened, but I didn’t reveal it for fear of my life. We took him to the hospital, and he was put on oxygen,” he explained.
However, his roommate was pronounced dead a few hours later, and Nyatuka was arrested.
Why was Nyatuka imprisoned for 5 years for murder
According to the student, he was immediately arrested and charged with the murder of his friend. He admitted his mistake.
In retrospect, the woman wishes she could have handled the crisis differently to avoid her friend’s death.
“The family of the deceased also forgave me, and this was important in reducing my sentence,” he said, adding:
“Although they forgave, the real change is forgiving myself. I remember when the incident happened, I would have nightmares, and I can’t work well. But I’m thankful that I was only imprisoned for five years.”
The woman now expects to finish her sentence in March 2026 and hopes to rebuild her life. He is hoping to get help going back to school.
