He is expected to run on the ticket of the DCP party. He is the organizing secretary of the party.

Linturi will face, among others, Senator Kathuri Murungi, the first governor Peter Munyaand Isaac Mutuma who is in power.

Mutuma took the reins of Mount Kenya county in March 2025 following the removal of the Governor Kawira Mwangazawho served under him as deputy.

On March 14, 2025, the High Court in Nairobi upheld the Senate’s decision to approve the impeachment of Mwangaza as done by the Meru County Assembly.

Judge Luck Mwamuye insisted that the Senate dealt with the case properly.

He confirmed that the upper chamber followed due process during impeachment proceedings in its plenary sessions.

The judge noted that the controversial county leader failed to show that the senators based their decision on grounds outside the law.

Mwangaza had previously resisted two attempts to remove him from power.

His first impeachment took place in December 2022, but a Senate committee led by Kakamega senator Boni Khalwale dismissed the charges and let him go free.

In the third bid, in August 2024, 49 out of 69 ward representatives voted to remove him, and the Senate approved the MCA resolution, allowing his removal to proceed.

In all trials, Mwangaza faced accusations of abuse of office, gross misconduct, and violation of the constitution.

He was elected in August 2022 as the third governor of Meru, succeeding him Kiraitu Murungi (2017-2022) and Peter Munya (2013-2017).

She was one of only seven female governors in the Council of Governors (CoG), which is largely dominated by men.
