Richmond Mensah, a nurse working in England (UK), died in his sleep before starting his shift.

He was scheduled to do the night shift and decided to take a short break so he could wake up rested and ready for work.

Sadly, when he closed his eyes it was the last time, as he died peacefully in his sleep.

“He said he was going to put his phone on the charger. When I first came in, he was asleep. Later, his alarm rang, but he wasn’t answering. That’s when I called 999,” he said.

The 33-year-old went to bed at 10:30pm and set the alarm at 11:45pm, not knowing that would be his last day alive.

After Maybel dialed 999, paramedics arrived quickly and began efforts to revive her before rushing her to hospital.

When did Richmond Mensah move to England?

Despite efforts to save him, he died shortly after being brought to the hospital. The cause of death has not been confirmed yet.

Mensah, who left behind a wife and three young children, moved to England in 2023 from Ghana in search of better opportunities.

He was fortunate to find a good job, which enabled him to provide for his family while also serving patients through his profession.

He spent his last days caring for the sick with compassion, a void that will be deeply felt and difficult to fill.

People on the internet are mourning Richmond Mensah

Social media users expressed their sadness at the news, especially for young children who will grow up without their father.

Skosana Shikale:When the clock strikes, it’s your time, whether you’re in Namibia, the United States or England. No matter how healthy you are or how little stress you have, we must understand that we will all leave this earth, albeit in different ways. God called his name, and he responded. Rest in peace, brother.”

Arlene Rowe: “Sorry for your loss. Condolences to family and friends. May he rest in eternal peace. I don’t think anyone should work more than 48 hours a week. In hospitals, nursing homes and care centers, working every second weekend is often a must. I think weekends should be paid time and a half as holidays.”

Kemi Omolaiye: “If Nigeria was better, would he have gone abroad to find a better life? It is very sad. I sympathize with the young family left behind. May God comfort the whole family. Rest in the bosom of the Lord, good father.”

Umeh Stina: “We don’t care about our health. How many people see their doctor for routine check-ups and blood tests? Some work six to seven days a week without rest. Many can’t ask for sick leave for fear of being denied their benefits and overtime. May his soul rest in peace. Work, rest, go on vacation, and listen to your body. Balance work and life.”

Daado-Ouma Baldeh: “Why say stress of that level is not for weak people? Who said he was weak? Even the strong can be broken. Humans are not machines. The young man had everything going well for him. Now his family will have to start their lives over again. It is very sad. May God rest his soul. Amen.”
