Speaking on TV47 on Thursday, February 26, lawyer Harrison Kinyanjui said that the political base has already changed and favors Sifuna.

“You can’t stop it. I am surprised that the UDA Brigade is out there, complaining. There is a deep lamentation that, oh, we wish that ODM would not go the way it is, so that we can form a strong coalition. Be aware that Sifuna announced before Raila Odinga died, that “we are in this because of the 10-point agenda agreement, not because of the second term,” he said.

Will Edwin Sifuna’s wave fade?

Explaining Sifuna’s increasing popularity and support from Kenyans, Kinyanjui said that citizens support what the Nairobi Senator stands for and represents.

“The people below are saying: Sifuna stood firm before Raila died and now you have been explaining what we said. When you hear Kenyans in Kitengela in Kajiado, or in Turkana saying, Sifuna is me, what are they saying? They accept what he represents, not necessarily the ODM group he supports.”, he explained.

He added that any attempts to remove Sifuna from the position of Secretary General of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) would only strengthen his influence among ordinary Kenyans.

“The Ruto camp changed everything about the union and got Ruto re-elected.” So, for luck bad for UDA, this will turn more and more into an unstoppable ODM faction. That is living in a fool’s paradise in relation to Sifuna”, he said.

Responding to the question of the emerging “third force” in Kenya’s political environment, Kinyanjui gave a strong criticism to the United Democratic Union (UDA) administration led by the President William Rutosaying that economic hardship has pushed ordinary Kenyans to the brink, not just the brink.

“Kenyans do not care whether it is Uhuru or Moi who will rise from the grave to remove oppression. The yoke is very heavy under UDA. And that is why these UDA believers are shocked when they hear Kenyans saying “Wantam”.

The lawyer, who has a keen interest in public litigation, also accused the government of managing corruption and questionable public spending that has reduced available public funds.

“Kenyans say we cannot tolerate 11 billion shillings disappearing anyway and somehow. We cannot tolerate this. We are told, Talanta Stadium is yours for the request but the Auditor General of Government Accounts points to the expenditure and says we cannot see all these 11 billion being sunk into the Atlanta Stadium but it is not known where they are. Kenyans are tired,” he said.

Kinyanjui further ignored the allegations that the former President Uhuru Kenyatta he loves Ruto very much.

“It’s very disgusting, I don’t want to think about it, because I’m very passionate about good governance. Uhuru has a democratic right to support any political cause or candidate he chooses, and the UDA has to live with that fact,” he added.

Kinyanjui stressed that the ODM faction fighting Sifuna is digging his growing political grave.

According to him, Ruto’s group has turned the agenda of unity with ODM into a strategy for the new election campaign, abandoning previous promises to correct the excesses during the Gen Z rebellion.

“Now, Ruto’s camp, they changed everything about the unity to a new election, they buried and forgot everything about the 10-point agenda. Wanga tried to revive it without success, but the people who were there say: Sifuna, you are standing firm,” Kinyanjui added.

According to him, the UDA that is seeking an alliance with ODM is driven only by the evil desire to seize political power to strengthen corruption and hold the Government’s resources for the benefit of the few and not for the public interest.

He holds the view that the UDA has never understood the true meaning of governance and operation of democratic institutions: to serve the people instead of robbing the people.

Why is Edwin Sifuna opposing William Ruto?

When he was designing his Linda Mwananchi movement, Sifuna said the goal was to remove Ruto from power and make him the first one-term president in the history of Kenya.

Sifuna said he would not mind joining the United Opposition to oppose Ruto in 2027.
