Mombasa – Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigation have two suspects linked to criminal gangs in the coastal area.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, February 24, DCI said an operation carried out by a joint team of Hawshaws deployed from the Crime and Intelligence Research Bureau (CRIB) led to the arrest of two dangerous suspects.
“Efforts to clear the Coast from criminals have received a major boost following the arrest of two (2) armed and dangerous suspects and the discovery of a loaded AK-47 rifle. The operation was carried out by a joint team of Hawshaw aircraft provided by the Crime and Intelligence Research Bureau (CRIB) and the Directorate of Operations,” the DCI said.
According to the DCI, the two suspects, Collins Ochieng, popularly known as Voke, aged 22, and Timothy Omondi Mgowe aged 23 are believed to be behind the robbery and kidnapping incident involving a businessman in Kisauni Sub-County on February 17, 2026.
During the robbery incident, the businessman was attacked by men wearing masks, who stole an unknown amount of money and other valuables from him before he was abandoned in the Mombasa Cement area.
“During the incident, the victim was attacked by men wearing masks, they stole a large amount of money and other valuables, and were later abandoned in the Cement area of Mombasa. Following the incident, a joint team of detectives has been working around the clock, determined to arrest the criminals and restore order in the coastal area, especially Mombasa,” the statement said.
Following several days of investigation, detectives raided a house in the Bamburi Fishing area, where they arrested Ochieng and Mgowe.
During the operation, the officers found an AK-47 rifle, one magazine, four bullets and 10 mobile phones.
“After several days of detailed investigation and taking action using credible information, the sleuths raided the targeted house in the Bamburi Fishing area. The operation resulted in the arrest of two (2) suspects and the recovery of one (1) AK-47 type rifle, one (1) magazine, four (4) bullets, and ten (10) mobile phones. The suspects are currently continuing the process while waiting to be brought to court, while security operations in the entire Coastal area continue to gain popularity, with the aim of making the area safe for all,” the DCI said.
