A Nyeri father speaks out after the suspect in the murder of his 7-year-old daughter was sentenced to death

  • Nicholas Julius Macharia, the man who killed a seven-year-old girl and buried her under her bed at his home, has received a sentence
  • He had blamed the devil for the act, claiming he was powerless to stop himself from committing the heinous crime
  • However, the Supreme Court dismissed the claims, excluding the devil from the act while giving its final judgment, a decision that pleased the father of the deceased girl.

The father of a young girl from Nyeri county, who was killed by a bebabeba, spoke with strong emotions after the court sentenced his daughter’s killer.

Blessing Tamara Kabura was killed by Nicholas Julius Macharia in May 2024 and buried under a bed in her house.

The seven-year-old girl was reported missing before she was found brutally murdered, her body hidden inside the suspect’s house.

On Thursday, February 19, Macharia, who was detained at the Nyeri Police Station since the murder, was brought to court where the final sentence was handed down.

“The pain that the child went through is indescribable. It exceeds human understanding. To call the prisoner an animal is to give him undeserved respect. We do not see any role played by the devil. The court does not recognize the blame for the supernatural forces. In this incident, the devil is not guilty. Therefore, I sentence you to death. The death sentence will be submitted to the relevant authorities to be signed and executed after 30 days,” the judge said.

Blessing’s father showed strength as he spoke to the media following the High Court’s decision and explained the next step for the family.

People in the comments also expressed their satisfaction that justice has been done, pouring into the comments section to express their views.

Wanjira Christine Muriuki: “The style is the same as Njuguna, the killer of Baby Shantel, we are waiting… If you kill without mercy, you die without mercy.”

Jane Wughanga: “Are you sure about that death sentence, or after 10 years we will hear that he has been released and we will see him giving a YouTube story like he did to our own child and he got out? Etc.”

Kareh Ngugi: “For what reason has he been sentenced to death? And those months he has been in prison and he has become fat… he will get used to prison and he was prepared. He would be released if the people finish him off… no sentence can match what he did to that young soul.”

Esther Ndungu: “Citizenship education is needed for our youth (both men and women). Cases like this also happen to boys; but many are unknown because men prefer to remain silent.”

Judy Onyango: “That’s why I hate men who like to give candy to little children. That’s very dangerous. There’s no way a neighbor won’t be able to buy candy for his child. If you’re a donor, take your candy to childcare centers.”

Victor Vrooke: “The death penalty should be the real death for a brutal crime like this against children. This life sentence thing, a person eats our taxes for the rest of his life, no.”

Blessing Tamara’s mother speaks

In another related case, Blessing’s mother, Susan Wanjiru, broke her silence after her daughter went missing and was later found murdered.

Wanjiru said she searched for her daughter until 8pm with the help of her fellow vegetarian mothers and the child’s grandmother, but their efforts were unsuccessful.

The heartbroken mother later recalled that Macharia even asked her if she had already found her daughter, despite her claims that she knew what had happened.
