Retired President Uhuru Kenyatta he has found himself in the mud within the ODM party, which has suffered severe divisions several months after the death of its founding leader, Raila Odinga.

He is accused of sponsoring a rebel group that has been opposing the actions of the current leadership under Siaya senator Oburu Oginga.
The Oburu branch includes, among others, the national chairman of the party Gladys Wangadeputy party leaders Governors Abdulswamad Nassir and Simba Arati, and minority leader in the National Assembly, Junet Mohamed.
The rebels, on the other hand, are led by the embattled secretary general Edwin Sifuna, the governor of Siaya James Orengoand Embakasi East MP Babu Owino.
Before the dismissal of Sifuna from the general secretary, his allies, led by Orengo, demanded the President William Ruto he was interfering in the running of the party and was planning to take power for his political benefit in 2027.
According to the rebel group, Oburu and his associates are agents of the president and make important decisions on orders from the National Central Government.
However, in response, the pro-Ruto branch said that Sifuna and his company are working for Uhuru.
Junet pointed out that Uhuru wanted to remove the party from any cooperation with the current administration, hence the chaos among the rebels who have vowed not to support Ruto in his bid for re-election.
“There is a lot of chaos in ODM since Baba died. I want to say that the problem we have in ODM is former president Uhuru Kenyatta. It is not Ruto or the wider government. Uhuru is the one who is destroying our party,” Junet said.
He claimed that Uhuru was funding the rebels to destroy the partnership that ODM intends to have with Ruto.
The Suna East Member of Parliament vowed that the party will not give up its desire to cooperate with the current president in his quest for re-election in 2027.
He said they will not obey any call of Uhuru because he was never important when he had the chance to hand over power to the late Raila Odinga in 2022.
“We want to ask him to leave our party alone. He has the Jubilee Party; he should consider it. We asked him to help us win the vote in 2022, but he failed. He is the one who funds the rebels we see in the party. We will not join him in his quest to remove Ruto from office,” Junet said.
Junet’s sentiments were echoed by Wanga, who also made accusations against the former president.
According to him, Uhuru wants ODM to cut ties with Ruto and instead join the United Opposition.
“We know the person involved in this whole attempt, and he is former president Uhuru Kenyatta. He wants ODM to unite with Gachagua,” he said.
