When it came to his retirement after 25 years of service to the school, members of the school community came out in droves to show their gratitude.
What he expected to be a small gathering took a new dimension when teachers, students and the community gave him cows, food, kitchen utensils, and many gifts.
Homa Bay County – Maryl Achieng Aseno, fondly known as Madam NyaJohn, was looking forward to a quiet retirement celebration at home.
Maryl Achieng’s sweet surprise
Charyl-Ann Aseno Nyar Jopuonj, who owns Che Dreamakers Events, told TUKO.co.ke that her mother has always been a giver, and her relationship with students is very strong.
She revealed that they went to the retirement party prepared with stationery, gifts, and even a complete donation center for the school.
However, nothing could have prepared them for the love, warmth, and generosity that poured in from teachers, parents, students, the church, and the community.
“The outpouring was incredible. From cows to food, kitchen utensils, and many gifts, the donations showed great respect and gratitude for a woman who has touched the lives of so many,” said the celebrity event planner.
Why Maryl Achieng was loved by the school community
More than the physical gifts, it was a sincere testimony about the influence of Madam NyaJohn that came out clearly, the way she taught cooking, cleanliness, entrepreneurship, the values of being a good wife, and above all, the spirit of giving.
In a symbolic gesture, the family chose the school’s corrugated iron classroom to be renovated in his honor, ensuring that his legacy will continue to inspire future generations.
Aseno described witnessing the impact of his mother as a true example of Proverbs 31, an example of kindness, goodness, and generosity.
“God bless you, NyaJohn,” she concluded, a sentiment echoed by the many lives her mother has touched over the years.
