Oburu Oginga Hints About When ODM Will Spit On Ruto To Have Their Presidential Candidate 2027

  • ODM has not committed to support President Ruto in 2027, keeping its options open to cooperation with like-minded parties
  • Oburu stressed that cooperation with UDA depends on the interests of both parties; if no agreement is reached, ODM may secede
  • The aim of the party at the moment is to strengthen itself and monitor the implementation of the 10-point agenda specified in its agreement document with the UDA

ODM leader Oburu Oginga says it is not clear that the Orange party will support the President William Ruto in 2027. According to him, the party is open to cooperation with all like-minded parties.

Speaking in Mombasa on Wednesday, February 11, at the beginning of the meeting of the party’s National Central Committee (NEC), Oburu said that plans to cooperate with Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) are ongoing, but he stressed that the success of the talks will depend on the interests of both parties.

He said that ODM will leave UDA if they do not have common ground on important issues.

In that case, the party will look for an alternative, and if that also fails, then it will enter the next vote only. For this, Oburu said the party has not committed to the government or the united opposition so far.

“We are not in a hurry to say two terms. We are strengthening our party to prepare for negotiations. First, we start with our current partners. And as we continue, if we do not agree, we continue to discuss with other existing groups. Or if there is no agreement with any, we do it alone as ODM. I think that is the position of the party. And I am very happy with them. That is what we have been following,” he said.

Oburu repeated his promise to lead the party after Raila Odinga and lead it to success in the next election.

At the same time, he said the party was maintaining the position left by Raila, appearing to support a broad plan.

“Life must continue in his honor. I will do my best until I go to the driver. I would also like to mention that the departed leader left us. He left us somewhere. He left us on a certain basis, and this basis he left us was called broad. And in this broad government, we have our partners who are the UDA. They are our partners with whom he left us. And we continue to bow down and work hard to fulfill the promises and plans that brought us together,” he said.

For now, Oburu said, the focus will be on implementing the 10-point agenda.

On March 7, the ODM and UDA parties will celebrate the first anniversary of the agreement they signed last year.

The parties agreed to cooperate in finding solutions to, among others, youth unemployment, decentralization funding, and cases of kidnapping and extrajudicial killings.

“One of the issues is the implementation of the 10-point agenda, which we must follow carefully and ensure that it is implemented as agreed,” he said.
