For the past two years, Mzee Cheruiyot has continued to express his complaints against his son’s widow, Asenath Rotich, as well as the Golazo company.
What happened to Kiptum’s parents?
He and his wife stood by their son’s grave, which has yet to be cemented, two years after the tragic car accident that claimed his life.
Kiptum’s father claimed that his son’s management company abandoned him and his wife, and they also blamed his son’s widow.

He claimed that his son’s widow has never visited them since he left for Rotterdam in 2024, despite the government building a house for him.
The family had expressed their hope to see their son’s grave covered with concrete.
“Today is the day our son left us. We are the parents of Kiptum, and we have been through a lot but we will persevere, and God will answer our prayers. One thing I want to say is that when they made their plans, the rich man from Keiyo who went to Nairobi and then Rotterdam with Mama Kigen (Asenath), then brought the foundation to Kaptagat – we were not involved in anything. We are surprised that after the funeral, the white people left and did not come back to talk to us. We are surprised that our son’s grave has not been taken care of until now. The Europeans know this.”
Kiptum’s father also revealed that he is struggling to pay his grandson’s school fees. The late athlete had a child with another woman, Edna Awuor.
“Right now we are educating Kiptum’s child, and I have sent the school schedule to Golazo, but the manager has refused to give us money to pay for the child’s tuition. What should we do? We are suffering. If it rains right now, the floods will take us away. Let us cry here at his grave, and I curse the old Keiyo along with Asenath. Eat our son then, and may God help us,” he said.

Kenyans online express their feelings about the cry of Kiptum’s parents
Loice Martins: You mean Kenyan athletes can’t even visit these parents in honor of Kiptum?
Eng. rope: Old man, your claim is very serious. The children of Kiptum need that money more than you. Use what is in your hands and accept the disaster.
SC♥️🩵💜: Asenath and the children of Kiptum deserve all the rights, but here I feel the pain of a parent. There is a weight to raising a child until he succeeds, especially a unique child, and then he dies. As parents you remain free — not a child, not grandchildren, not even a fraction of his success or property.
Vayoo: “Asenath should also speak so we know where the truth is.”
Dollmm: “That Kiptum child you are teaching is the one out of wedlock?”
Did Kiptum’s father ever cry in public?
In other news, the late athlete’s father was once seen crying in pain in a video that touched the hearts of many on the internet.
He accused his son-in-law and a government official of misusing his son’s property.
Many Kenyans called on the government to help the heartbroken parents.
