Edwin Sifuna has finally broken his silence after he was suddenly removed from his position as Secretary General of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) on Wednesday, February 11.

The Nairobi senator took to social media to thank his supporters and confirm that he will speak to the media.

“After the events of yesterday, I am overwhelmed with messages of support and encouragement. I will speak to the media this morning to answer some of your questions. Thank you very much. God bless you,” Sifuna wrote.

The post has since attracted thousands of comments, likes and shares, with followers showing solidarity and encouraging him to stand firm amid the political turmoil.

Details of the sudden removal of Sifuna Mombasa

Sifuna was removed from his post during a tense NEC meeting held in Mombasa and chaired by party leader Oburu Oginga.

NEC announced that the County Women’s Representative kissCatherine Omanyo, will serve as Acting Secretary General until he is elected to hold the position fully.

The party cited concerns about discipline and collective decision-making as the reason for the decision.

However, the decision was said to have divided the NEC, with four members reportedly voting against his removal.

Among those who opposed the move were Deputy Chairman Otiende Amollo, Treasurer Timothy Bosire, Kisumu Women’s Representative Ruth Odingaand another member identified as Mike.

Sources say that the conflicted members insisted that Sifuna be given a chance to defend himself before the final decision is made. Finally the matter was decided through a vote, where the majority supported his removal.

In related developments, Kileleshwa MCA Robert Alai has claimed that Sifuna is preparing to challenge the decision in court.

Through a strongly worded post on social media, Alai stressed that the party’s leadership is ready for any legal challenge and that the decision was reached following due process.

At the same time, ODM has signaled plans to officially withdraw from the alliance Declaration of Unity. The move is expected to be approved at the National Delegates Conference (NDC) scheduled for March 26.
