On Thursday, February 12, ODM senior leaders will begin a series of Linda Ground meetings in Lamu, Witu and Garsen.

The motivational tour is expected to continue until Saturday, involving the areas of Magarini, Coastal University, Mariakani, Taveta, Voi and Ukunda.

The Beach Tour will end on Sunday, February 15, with a church service followed by an afternoon meeting at the Tononoka Grounds in Mombasa.

Daily Nation reported that the NEC meeting was organized as an emergency to deal with the growing internal conflicts within the party.

Why is the ODM leadership meeting in Mombasa?

One of the biggest disputes is the recent change of leadership within the United One Kenya Coalition Party, where former President Uhuru Kenyatta oversaw the appointment of Wiper’s leader, Kalonzo Musyokaas a union leader.

ODM strongly opposed the move, claiming that the removal of the late party leader Raila Odinga as the chairman of the union it went against the union agreement.

The party insists that Uhuru does not have the power to appoint or fire union officials without a legally constituted meeting involving key union partners.

The meeting is also expected through preparations for the National Delegates Conference (NDC) which continues to be a source of conflict between groups supporting ODM leader Oburu Oginga and another group related to the Secretary General Edwin Sifuna and Member of Parliament for Embakasi East, Babu Owino.

Also on the agenda is a review of the 10-point cooperation agreement between ODM and the ruling party UDA, as well as information on coalition talks before the 2027 General Elections.

Will Edwin Sifuna be removed as Secretary General of ODM?

However, sources within the party claim that Wednesday’s meeting could be the time to decide the fate of the current office of the party.

There are growing rumors that Sifuna could be forced out, rumors that have fueled heated debate online and within party ranks.

Kileleshwa MCA, Robert Alai, added to the rumors in a Facebook post, claiming that Sifuna was “hours away” from leaving a powerful position within the party.

A few days ago, the Minister of Finance, John Mbadi, angrily demanded the removal of Sifuna due to conflicts within the party.
