National Treasury Cabinet Secretary (CS) John Mbadi is pushing for the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Central Management Committee to kick out party Secretary General Edwin Sifuna. Mbadi accuses Sifuna of spearheading a ‘rebel’ movement from inside the party.
According to Mbadi, who previously chaired ODM, Sifuna and his supporters have shifted their loyalty to the United opposition. He’s now calling on party leader Oburu Oginga to organize a Central Management Committee (CMC) meeting to decide what happens to Sifuna.
“If someone does not want to agree with ODM policies, that person should be left to go so that we know how many people he is leaving with,” he said.
Speaking in Suba South, Homa Bay county on Sunday, Mbadi declared that the time has come to show the door to those who disagree with the party. He contends that Sifuna and his allies cannot hold ODM hostage just to serve their personal interests.
“Someone like Sifuna will not remain in ODM because already he is conflicted. He is now selling the agenda of someone else. Why are you pretending? You cannot keep him at the party,” the Treasury CS said.
The CS made these remarks on the same day that Sifuna led the group calling itself “Linda Wananchi” to Busia County, where they maintained that ODM cannot enter into a pre-election agreement with President William Ruto.

CS Mbadi brushed off the Linda Wananchi campaign that Sifuna, Babu Owino and James Orengo are leading, claiming it lacks any basis.
He warned that the Central Management Committee shouldn’t delay action because the secretary general has demonstrated indiscipline toward party leader Oburu Oginga. He stands firm that the UDA-ODM partnership will continue despite resistance from the rebels.
“ODM is a solid party. There is no way it will fail. It will remain solid the way Raila left it. Some people think we can not play politics. We will, and we will ensure we talk to our people to remain steadfast in ODM under the leadership of Oburu Oginga,” Mbadi argued.
