He talked to them for a while as they seemed to want to know what he was selling.
The video then cut to briefly share its content—the man was selling silver cypresses, popularly known as omena.
Omena is a small, feathery freshwater fish native to East Africa. It is a popular and cheap source of protein, especially in Kenya.
To prepare it, the fish is often dried in the sun and then fried until it becomes crispy and golden brown. It is usually served in a stew made of tomatoes, onions, and cream, and is usually accompanied by ugali.
One of the men was seen writing on his phone, apparently sending money to a white man. The businessman then expertly measured the omena before looking at his phone to confirm receipt of the money.
The video sparked curiosity among Kenyans, who wondered why he started the business and how he ended up in the country. Others made silly jokes, while several netizens celebrated his entrepreneurial spirit.
