Speaking on NTV on Tuesday, February 10, Savula revealed that he had a phone conversation with Ruto immediately after the Malava by-election, in which the UDA candidate emerged victorious.
Is Ruto excluding Wetang’ula from the campaigns in the Western region?
The conversation was based on how the leader of Kenya First Alliance can get a lot of votes in Western Kenya in the next election.
“Immediately after the Malawi by-election, I called the president. I told him I want to join you now officially. He told me to continue. What do you need? I told him I want to form a team that will give you votes in the West,” Savula revealed.
The deputy governor of Kakamega asked the president to remove the Secretary General of the Council of Ministers Stay Mudavadi and the Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetang’ula from campaigning in the Western region.
“Then he said to me, ‘What do you think?’ It was about two o’clock in the night. I told him to let Musalia be at the national level to give national votes. Let Wetangula stay at the national level to give national votes. Let Oparanya work with you there,” he said.
How many votes is Ruto aiming for in Western Kenya?
It was during their conversation that Ruto chose to elect the governor of Bungoma Kenneth Lusaka to coordinate his presidential campaigns in Mulembe nation.
“He said, ‘I have a proposal.’ Let’s elect the governor of Bungoma because he is retiring to lead the team. Then I said perfect. Call him. I told him that I cannot call a leader and give direction as the president said. I am a politician. I can’t do that. Call him. So I called him. Within two minutes Lusaka was calling me again,” the deputy governor revealed.
Following a long phone conversation, Savula, along with Lusaka, officially began the process of getting 2.6 million votes for Ruto in Western Kenya.

“I said that we should motivate the parliamentarians to launch the meeting. We had a meeting at the Golf Hotel where we launched the meeting to campaign for the UDA to get 2.6 million votes. After that, our second task was now to find candidates who will run for parliamentary seats, Senate seats, governorship seats, women’s representatives and so on,” Savula said.
Will William Ruto win the 2027 elections?
Meanwhile, Lusaka, who is leading the presidential campaign, said that unseating Ruto in the next general election will be a difficult task, if not impossible.
Speaking at the Chebukwa Catholic Church on June 8, Lusaka said that the current heightened political tension is normal in an election season where an incumbent candidate wants to be re-elected.
He compared the situation to the 2007 and 2017 elections, where Presidents Kibaki and Kenyatta, respectively, faced strong opposition but won second terms.
