Nandi: Uncle, Aunt Arrested for Beating Their Nephew to Death for Stealing Corn

Nandi – The Office of the Director of Criminal Investigation (DCI) has announced the arrest of two murder suspects.

In their statement on Tuesday, February 10, makahero wa DCI arrested a man, and a woman accused of beating their 19-year-old nephew to death in small Turbo County.

“Detectives from DCI Turbo have arrested an uncle and an aunt who are jointly accused of giving the death penalty to their 19-year-old nephew, Kevin Kipkorir Meli, in a horrific incident that occurred on February 2, 2026, in Kiplombe, Turbo Sub-County,” DCI said.

On that fateful day, officers at the Marine Police Station received an emergency call about a man brutally beaten to death in the village of Kaplelach.

When officers went to the scene, they found Kevin with multiple injuries on his body lying under an apricot tree at his uncle’s residence.

“Without wasting time, officers rushed to the scene, where they discovered the body of Kevin Kipkorir Meli, lying under an apricot tree at his uncle’s residence. Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) officers carefully recorded the scene of the horrific crime. The young victim’s body had multiple injuries on the head, back, legs, and hands, with blood clotted from the nose,” the statement read.

His remains were later transported to the mortuary of the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) for safekeeping and post-mortem.

Investigations by the DCI revealed that the victim was attacked by Philip Kosgei and Tecla Chepchirchir, who accused him of stealing dry maize.

“Preliminary investigations revealed a surprising motive: Kevin was suspected of stealing and selling dry maize from his uncle’s house. In an act of revenge, Phillip Kosgei, together with Tecla Chepchirchir, tied the boy to an avocado tree. They then brutally beat him with a stick until he lost consciousness and eventually lost his life,” DCI said.

Makachero has already found manila rope and broken sticks believed to be the murder weapon.

“Makachero found the manila rope, used to tie Kevin to the tree, and the broken sticks, used in the fatal attack, as key pieces of evidence near the scene of the tragic incident. Both suspects are currently in police custody, undergoing investigation before being brought to court,” Makachero said.
