The Member of Parliament, who rose to fame as a comedian turned politician, said his move into the senatorial race was based on his interactions with Nairobi residents in various constituencies.
How did Jalang’o reach the Nairobi seat?
During an interview on Radio 47’s morning program on Tuesday, February 10, the first term member of parliament said his decision came after extensive consultation and engagement.

The MP expressed his confidence in his position, saying that he believes he has what it takes to lead the city.
“I make my decisions and I go to them. I tell you, I can be the Governor of Nairobi, I can be the Senator of Nairobi, I can be the Member of Parliament for Lang’ata, and I can be the Member of Parliament anywhere in Nairobi. I have gone around, I have listened, I have talked to people, why not? I will accept!” Jalango announced.
The MP’s aspirations put him on a direct collision course with the ODM secretary general and the current Nairobi senator. Edwin Sifunaand headlined what promises to be one of the most watched tournaments of 2027.
Jalang’o, however, expressed unwavering confidence in getting the party’s nomination, stressing that he will also lead in any coalition plan that ODM may come up with.
“You should know that my name will be on the ballot. It will be on the ballot. Let me tell you, you are voters in Nairobi, you will come there, look at the list of senatorial candidates, and you will find me there. I am a member of ODM, that is my party, and that is where I belong. I will be holding the ODM ticket. If ODM joins his party, then ODM will join that party on its own. Whoever flies the flag of that union I will defeat whoever comes in the nomination, and whoever comes secondly he will be far behind in the playoffs.
Is Jalang’o Ruto’s project in the Nairobi race?
Despite critics questioning that his move may not be complete, given that he is serving his first term in the National Assembly, Jalang’o dismissed the claims insisting that there is no limit to his political course.
He hinted at bigger ambitions, saying that by continuing to garner public support, his rise could culminate in the presidency.

Jalang’o known for his close relationship with the President William Ruto before the broad UDA-ODM agreement, he was quick to reject suggestions that he was just a political “project”, the MP insisted.
“Why should I be directed by the president? Politics is not directed. Politics is not dictated by anyone. The position you want does not wait for someone to tell you or ask you for permission. If it is a decision, it is your own decision,” emphasized the MP.
