Felix Otieno, the father of the children, spoke emotionally after the incident, which happened while he was attending a fun event in Obunga.
What happened before the Kisumu brothers drowned?
Otieno said before leaving his compound, he directed the children aged 15, 13, 10 and eight years, to draw water from a well or pipe from his mother’s compound and bathe.
“I was with them here, they usually do not bathe in the quarry and before I left they had drawn water from the pipe, I was very surprised to know that they had come to this quarry,” he said.
Later in the evening, the distraught father revealed that he received a terrifying phone call from his father informing him that the brothers were in a flooded quarry.
It is said that one of the boys ventured into the depths of the mine and began to drown, causing his brothers to jump to try to save him.
The abandoned mine is said to have deep water-filled areas.
“At six o’clock in the evening my father called me to run home because some children had drowned, I took the bike and respected the call, when I got home I saw my son dead, my brother had taken out one body, others joined the surgery and all the bodies were taken out, at that time I was on my knees praying,” he revealed.
Why is Felix Otieno seeking help?
The grieving father, who is now left with a two-and-a-half-year-old daughter, appealed to Kenyan good Samaritans to help him financially in the burial of the four children, whose sudden death left the family in shock.

“I am asking the people to help me get rid of this disaster, I am asking for help to bury them, because I know God will bless me again,” he prayed and added that several children have drowned in the quarry but no measures are being taken by the authorities to deal with the situation.
“Five people including children have died in this area, but no action has been taken.”
