Citizen Tv reported that four siblings aged between nine and 14 drowned after drowning in a quarry in Kisumu Central sub-county on Sunday, February 8

How did the terrible incident in Kisumu happen?

Kondele Chief Maurice Ajwang confirmed the sad incident that happened near Kudho Primary and Secondary School.

According to Ajwang, the sad incident happened after the children went swimming in the abandoned quarry.

Initial investigations indicated that a young man reportedly moved to the deepest part of the quarry and started drowning.

His three brothers tried to save him but they were also overwhelmed by the water. Residents screamed, prompting local authorities to intervene.

Benson Leparmorijo, County Commissioner of Poisonoussaid residents shouted, causing a response from local authorities.

Leparmorijo announced that all four bodies were later removed from the quarry by rescue teams, including those of the government.

The police are investigating the cause of the incident. Residents are also warned against swimming in unprotected water areas such as quarries and ponds to prevent such disasters.
