In a statement on Sunday, February 8, DCI revealed that the two trucks were stolen in Gatanga on August 16, 2025.
Through intelligence information, detectives arrested five suspects, who are believed to be the main perpetrators of the robbery.
“Operation Support Unit (OSU) detectives have managed to recover two stolen Isuzu trucks in Murang’a County. The vehicles in question, Isuzu FVZ with registration numbers KDQ 845T and Isuzu FRR with registration numbers KDL 078W, were taken in a robbery in Gatanga on August 16, 202. and through intelligence leaders, five suspects – Peter Njuguna Gitau, Mark Kinyua, Erick Chege, David Kigo, and Joseph Ndung’u Waweru, the main perpetrators of this daring robbery, were arrested,” the DCI said.
Following the arrest of the suspects, they led detectives to Mombasa county where the trucks were found in Makupa with fake registration numbers.
“After being questioned, the suspects led the detectives to Mombasa county where the trucks were found in Makupa as follows: an Isuzu FVZ (KDQ 845T) was fitted with a fake KDV 449C plate, while the Isuzu FRR (KDL 078W) had a fake KCA plate to evade the 505D hand of the law,” said the statement.
Detectives are now making arrangements to return the trucks to their owners while the suspects await arraignment.
“Since the trucks have now been found and are safe in the hands of the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) Gatanga, plans are underway to return them to their owners, to restore hope and justice to the victims of this crime. At the same time, the suspects who were caught are still detained, continuing to be processed while waiting to be brought to court,” DCI said.
In his Twitter message, Governor Irungu Kang’ata confirmed that one of the trucks belongs to the Murang’a county government and that one of the suspects is a former Member of Parliament.
Gitau, who was arrested by the DCI, is a former Member of Parliament for Mwea constituency.
“One of these trucks belongs to the Muranga County Government. A garbage truck. One of the suspects is a former Member of Parliament. Thank you, Police, for helping us recover,” Kang’ata said.
