Gathigi was sentenced to life in prison about two years ago after her mother fought with her sister over a man, and her sister sent her to prison. His wife’s false testimony in court at that time was like a nail in the coffin of his freedom, and he was sent to King’ongo Prison.

In 2025, Gathigi was reunited with his grandmother, who testified against him when she visited him in Leprosy Prison, where she confirmed the evidence she gave in court.

His grandmother has denied her testimony after saying that she was persuaded by her other daughter to involve the young man. When Edwin was released, he expressed happiness and said he planned to go back to school and pursue his dream of becoming a chef.
