However, on Wednesday, February 4, the affiliated parties, led by the National Liberal Party and the United Democratic Party, rejected the change.
In a letter to the Registrar of Political Parties, the NLP claimed that the meeting said to be called by Uhuru was highly secretive and included parties that had already expressed their intention to withdraw from the Declaration. Why the Parties Resisted the Change in the Leadership of the Resolution
“We are shocked by the level of political deception disguised as democracy from our alliance partners who secretly and irregularly held an alleged meeting of the Declaration and discussed issues of the alliance among themselves to fill vacancies and removal from the national executive committee and council among other issues,” they said.
Citing the change as an act of political deception, the parties are now asking the registrar of political parties to reach a decision that the resolutions are invalid and that the registrar provides a summary of the meeting, membership status and agreement document.
NPL, led by party leader Augustus Muli, asked the registrar not to approve the changes as presented by the former president’s group.
