The local football union is in mourning following the sudden death of Kakamega Homeboyz defender Silas Abungana.

The Kenya Premier League team confirmed the sad news in an official statement, noting that the defender died after sustaining serious injuries during the night attack.
What we know about the death of Silas Abungana
According to the club, Abungana was attacked on the night of Tuesday, February 3.
He was rushed to the Kakamega General Hospital for treatment, but sadly he died a few minutes before midnight on Wednesday, February 4.

The club revealed that the cause of death was head injuries sustained during the brutal attack. Additional reports indicate that the incident that caused his injuries allegedly involved a family member.
The police have since launched an investigation into the matter.
“At this very difficult time, we respectfully ask for privacy for Silas’ family, teammates, friends, and club officials as we come to terms with this unimaginable tragedy. Rest in peace, Silas,” part of the club’s statement said.
Kakamega Homeboyz added that more details about the incident, including funeral arrangements, will be communicated in due course.
Abungana had played the full 90 minutes in Homeboyz’s recent match against Mara Sugar on Saturday, January 31.
The bad news comes just five months after he joined Kakamega Homeboyz. Before his move, he played for Shabana FC during the season they were promoted to the Kenyan Premier League.

Condolences have poured in following the death of Silas Abungana
