The incident has led to calls for cameras to be installed in homes to monitor the behavior of domestic workers and carers when their employers are away.
In this particular video, the housekeeper was not cruel to the child, but her actions were frightening and disturbing.
What did the maid do to the boss’s son?
The housekeeper and the little girl were caught in the living room at about 5am, apparently watching television. The housekeeper was sitting on a chair near the main door, while the little girl was on the carpet.
Seconds later, the camera captures the little girl approaching her guardian, who immediately extends his arms as if to embrace her.
However, instead of hugging him, the guardian pulled the child close to his chest, lifted his shirt, and exposed his bare chest. The little girl began to nurse, as if she had done this before.
While the little girl was breastfeeding, the caregiver gently held her back while she continued to watch television, without any disturbance.
Kenyans express their opinion after the nanny breastfeeds the employer’s child.
Some social media users shared their experiences with housekeepers, with one man recounting how his nanny’s care helped his daughter grow up strong and healthy after breastfeeding her in his absence.
Wanjiku of Kamau:
“Install CCTV and make sure the housekeeper knows it’s there. If something like this happens, at least you’ll have evidence! What will happen if you hide the CCTV, and then you find out your child is hurt? As soon as the housekeeper enters your house, let him know that there is CCTV, so he understands that everything he does will be recorded. No one would do something impossible if they knew CCTV was watching!”
Jimmy Class Kims:
“Many of the people commenting here don’t have children or are too ignorant to understand the innocence of children… saying a child is ‘too old’ for such things. Children are shaped, rightly or wrongly, by the people around them.”
Lui Chebby:
“I installed CCTV the day I heard my nanny say to my child, ‘I’m going to scald you with hot water.’ He was only 2 years and 10 months old at the time. That’s when I let her go, and closed the chapter on the nanny.”
Monica Chemu Mamu:
“The way the baby settles down, it’s like he’s been nursing from the nanny since he was very young. Now, the baby is very used to it. Poor thing.”
Godfrey Owino:
“My wife died and left me with a two-month-old daughter. I had a nanny at home who was very kind and took good care of my daughter as if she were her own. After one year, she left to join the university. Six years later, to my surprise, she opened up to me and revealed that she was breastfeeding my baby, which is why she was healthy. To this day, my daughter is older than her peers, and I thank God for a very good nanny.”
