During the interview on Citizen TV on Tuesday, February 4, Sifuna announced that he has no intention of leaving the party despite differences with senior party officials regarding the 2027 election.

Will Edwin Sifuna leave ODM?

“I am in ODM, and no one can expel me from ODM; I have no intention of leaving. You do not need to be an official to be a member of the party,” Sifuna said.

Sifuna said that he will be fine if a Special National Delegates Conference (NDC) is convened and he is disrespectfully kicked out of the powerful position.

According to Sifuna, there are many young people in the party who can do a better job than him if they are named in that position.

“In the call of the NDC, and me being dismissed as SG: It is right. Nowhere is it written that Sifuna can be the only SG. I have said that I have predecessors, people who have done this work; I have young people in ODM who, I know for sure, if given the opportunity, can do this work better than Sifuna or any other SG who have served before. It is not the right of anyone to be SG or to have any position in the party,” he added.

Did ODM break the constitution in electing Oburu Oginga as party leader?

The Nairobi senator further criticized the establishment of Oburu Oginga as acting party leader following the death of Raila Odinga.

According to Sifuna, some officials did not consider the provisions of the Orange party constitution in suspending Oburu.

“The installation of Oburu Oginga as the interim leader of the party was not orderly according to the articles of the Constitution. What I would advise if I was in that meeting is to allow one of the deputies – they can even act for one month – and in the next 3 months, call a special NDC and do it properly and properly. I was not in that meeting because I was going to take the leader of my party to bring Baba home. I don’t think anyone considers me important enough to wait and they have their reasons why they did it the way they did,” he said.

Do the leaders want Edwin Sifuna to leave the ODM party?

As previously reported, some ODM leaders wanted Sifuna to be removed as the party’s general secretary.

Homa Bay Town Member of Parliament George Peter Kaluma urged Oburu Oginga and National Assembly Minority Leader Junet Mohamed to convene an emergency meeting of the Group of Parliamentarians.

Kaluma urged the PG meeting to remove Sifuna and other “rebel” MPs from important parliamentary roles, claiming they are undermining the party and sympathizing with him Rigathi Gachagua.

Narok Senator Ledama Olekina also hinted at plans to expel Sifuna from the position for always opposing the party’s position.
