Carabao Cup: How Much Chelsea Missed After Arsenal Beat

  • Arsenal reached their first final in over five years after beating Chelsea 4-2 in the Carabao Cup on February 3
  • Kai Havertz returned to haunt his former players, coming off the bench to score the winner in the second leg at the Emirates Stadium
  • In addition to winnings, the Carabao Cup has a financial value, although it is exceeded by the amount given in other competitions

The world champions traveled to North London needing to overturn a 3-2 defeat at home a month ago.

However, they failed to think of anything as a strong Arsenal prevented them the whole game before Kai Havertz came off the bench to score in the final minutes.

The head coach of Chelsea Liam Rosenior, who has shown tactical flexibility in his short coaching career, opted for three defenders before switching it up in the second half, but both tactics failed to work.

Carabao Cup prize money

The trophy does not offer a huge financial advantage to whoever wins it compared to the FA Cup, let alone the Premier League.

As reported by BBC Sport, the winner of the competition takes home 100,000 pounds (KSh 17.6 million) as a prize for the competition and a guarantee to participate in Europe next season.

Winning the Carabao Cup gives the team a ticket to the play-off rounds of the Conference League, although the team can relinquish their place if they qualify for Europe’s top competitions, namely the Champions League and Europa League.

The losing finalists at Wembley Stadium will get half of that, which is £50,000 (KSh 8.8 million), while the semi-finalists will get £25,000 each (KSh 4.4 million).

Therefore, Arsenal are guaranteed a payment of at least KSh 8.8 million while Chelsea will take half of that. The Gunners will play with Manchester City or Newcastle United in the final. The two will meet tonight with the former leading 2-0.

Will Arsenal win four trophies?

The result also means that Mikel Arteta’s side will remain in the hunt for an unprecedented four trophies this season. They lead by six points in the Premier League, while the group that follows them does not seem to interest them.

They recently came out of the Champions League knockout stages unscathed after winning all eight of their last eight games. They will face one of Olympiacos, Bayer LeverkusenAtalanta or Borussia Dortmund in the Round of 16.

The Gunners are also in the FA Cup, where they will play Wigan in the next round.

Arsenal release 7 players

In another report, Arsenal released seven players during the January transfer window but failed to sign any big name players.

The management of the club maintained their faith in the squad they improved shortly before the start of the season, as they prepare to win the big championship.

Among the big names released are Ethan Nwaneri and Oleksandr Zinchenko.
