Baringo County Officer Dies With Her Infant Two Days After Giving Birth

Juliah Wangari Karanja and her son, Tyler Kipkalya, died on January 28 and January 31, respectively, while under post-natal care.

The community is calling for action after the death of Julia Wangari

Wangari died at Mercy Mission Hospital shortly after giving birth, while her son died at Bloom Hospital, Nakuru.

“It is with deep and profound sadness that we announce the sudden death of our beloved livestock officer, Baringo county and her infant son,” his family said in an obituary statement.

The exact causes of death of Wangari and Kipkalya have not been revealed.

At the same time, the two tragic deaths left the community in shock and the county in mourning, reviving public concern about maternal and emergency care.

Maternal and newborn health experts point out that the period immediately after delivery is important and requires close monitoring, timely intervention, and well-prepared emergency response systems to prevent complications that can lead to loss of life.

As funeral arrangements for Wangari and his son continue, pressure continues to mount on health authorities to preserve medical records, reassure the public, and take concrete steps to prevent similar tragedies in the future.

Meanwhile, the late officer has left behind two children, Liam Kiprop Mutai and Gianna Jepkogei, under the care of her husband, Fred Kimutai Rerimoi.

Wangari’s family, friends, and colleagues meet every day at his home in Kiamunyi, Nakuru, for prayers and funeral preparations.

“Friends and family are meeting every day for prayers and support at his home in Kiamunii,” said his obituary.

The drive to raise funds to reduce medical and funeral expenses will be held on February 3 at Gethsemane Apartments near the Grand Wiston Hotel in Nakuru and on February 4 at Eldama Ravine.

“M-Pesa donations can be sent to 0720115197-Kennedy Rerimoi,” the family said.

The funeral is scheduled for Saturday, February 7, 2026, with the cortege leaving PNN Funeral Home for the family compound in Kaburwo.

Elsewhere, a pregnant woman expressed grief after a Nairobi hospital reportedly refused to help her and her dead unborn fetus.

He claimed that despite vomiting blood and his health being bad, the doctors refused to admit him, while the officials of security locked him out of the hospital.

The woman claimed that doctors intervened after the media covered her condition.

However, despite the family’s claims of the doctor’s negligence, a section of Kenyans defended the hospital, citing the effects of carrying a dead child with a quick C-section.
