Speaking at ACK St. Mark’s Gitugi in Mathioya Constituency, Murang’a senator Joe Nyutu thanked the President William Ruto for intervening following the attack at the Witima ACK Church in Othaya, Nyeri, last Sunday.
Did the government plan to kill Gachagua?
During the chaos allegedly organized by two MPs and senior security officers under the orders of senior government officials, several women and children were tear gassed and injured, causing the service to end abruptly.

Former vice president Rigathi Gachagua and his associates ran through the fence while other believers ran for safety.
Addressing the public later that evening, Gachagua claimed that the attack was orchestrated by the government to kill him inside the church.
Several opposition leaders, including the leader of the Wiper Party Kalonzo Musyokacondemned the attack and called for a thorough investigation.
However, despite the incident, opposition leaders vowed to return to Nyeri for a big meeting after the cancellation of their Othaya and Kiawara meetings.

Although he thanked Ruto, he criticized the president for allegedly favoring national minorities when providing security.
He questioned why the head of state took that step after it was claimed that women and children were injured in the attack.
“I have seen police officers being sent here to protect us. I want to ask Ruto, ‘Did you have to wait until the women and children were teargassed in the church before sending police officers to protect us?’ I want to tell Ruto, security is not a favor he gives to anyone he likes. We want to tell him that security is our right and we want it to continue,” he said.

Nyutu challenged the government to show its commitment to dealing with the Witima church attack by arresting 15 suspected police officers and announcing their identities.
“We also want to remind him that the policemen who were involved in last Sunday’s riots have not been arrested. Using these policemen is like pretending; it represents for example the behavior of the Pharisees who washed their clothes, but inside, they were not cleansed,” he said, adding that Gachagua is the only leader who gives Ruto nightmares.
Was Kindiki involved in the attack against Gachagua in Nyeri?
Meanwhile, a few hours after the Nyeri church attack, Gachagua shared a photo of the suspected bodyguard of the Deputy President Kithur Kindikiclaiming that he was involved in the chaos.
In response to his allegations, Kindiki denied knowing the man, claiming that Gachagua wanted to drag him into the much condemned chaos.
He distanced himself from the attack, which he described as a backward trend of using politics to do politics.
