The governor said the program was facilitated by a researcher and resident of Homa Bay, Peter Omondi McOdida, and his network.

Speaking during the launch on Wednesday, January 28, Wanga praised the owners of the project for their innovative contribution to the growth of the community and the county.

“Today is a proud day for Homa Bay. It’s a day that speaks of humanity, innovation, and inclusion and our collective commitment to building a county that will leave no one behind. It’s about facing the truth that has been quietly hidden for too long. Thank you for what you’ve done here. I’m so proud. We’ll do whatever it takes to make this happen,” he said.

Why did Wanga praise Homa Bay pad factory?

According to Wanga, with an investment of over KSh 60 million, the Galentine Care Sanitary Pads Factory meets an important community need and demonstrates Homa Bay’s readiness for investment, and promoting industries that drive local economic growth.

He noted that the unavailability of sanitary pads in rural areas in the county has led to an increase in child pregnancies and put women and girls at various health risks and stigmatization.

“Menstruation is a normal part of life, but for many girls and women in rural areas, especially from low-income households, it has become a source of shame, isolation, and weakness,” he said, giving an example of the challenges many face, including limited opportunities to find employment due to leaving school early.

The Governor emphasized the importance of the Galentine Care Sanitary Pads Factory, especially in creating jobs for girls, women, and retailers as well as in helping to keep young people in school.

The politician expressed confidence that the Galentine Care Sanitary Pads Factory will produce affordable and high-quality Galentine Sanitary Pads that are ultra-thin, leak-proof, and soft, ensuring dignified care for women and girls.

“When sanitary pads are available and affordable, girls attend school regularly and participate with confidence,” she said.

Did Wanga order pads from the Galentine factory?

Recognizing the shortage of pad factories across the country, Wanga encouraged the residents of Homa Bay to support the program by using it as part of the distribution to all donors.

He promised to lead by example and appealed to leaders, including the local MP Millie Odhiamboto ensure that the factory remains in existence.

“Those who want to distribute pads in this area should place orders from this factory. I will also place orders worth KSh 500,000 to donate to the school. Start working on the order,” he said.
