- Senegal and Morocco have been handed heavy sanctions after the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final that was marred by violence on January 18
- The Teranga Lions team will pay more than KSh 70 million in fines, while their coach, Pape Thiaw, will be banned for five games
- Morocco has also been punished, with two of its players suspended for their roles in the now infamous towel scandal
The disciplinary committee of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has finally made a decision on the final of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
The committee has refused protest of Morocco wanting to strip Senegal of the title on the grounds of violation of Articles 82 and 84, after Senegal left the field without the referee’s permission. The hosts argued that the referee should have ended the game and declared Senegal the losers.
However, the committee has strongly criticized Senegal and Morocco and some of their players, following the end of the last game with strong criticism on January 18.
Senegal has been given severe sanctions after leaving the stadium for protests and chaos that occurred in the stadiums between their supporters and the police.
Head coach Pape Thiaw has been banned for five games and fined 100,000 dollars (KSh 12.8 million) after asking the players to leave the field.
His players, Iliman Ndiaye and Ismailla Sarr, who appeared before the committee on Tuesday, have been banned for two games for unsportsmanlike behavior against the referee.
The Senegalese Football Federation has been fined 615,000 dollars (KSh 79.8 million) for different violations.
- 300,000 dollars for the bad conduct of his supporters, which brought the game into disrepute against the CAF Disciplinary rules of fair play and integrity.
- USD 300,000 for the unsportsmanlike conduct of their players and technical staff contrary to the CAF Disciplinary principles of fair play, honesty and integrity. The unsportsmanlike behavior of their players and technical staff also brought the game into disrepute.
- 15,000 US dollars for the misconduct of his National Team, due to his five (5) players receiving warnings.

Regarding Morocco, the committee has suspended Achraf Hakimi for two games (one suspended) and Ismail Saibari for three games for unsportsmanlike conduct. The latter player has also been fined 100,000 US Dollars (KSh 12.8 million).
The federation has been fined 315,000 US Dollars (40.6 million) as follows
- 200,000 US dollars, for inappropriate behavior of the football players during the aforementioned match.
- 100,000 US dollars for the misconduct of their National Team players and technical staff, who invaded the VAR inspection area and obstructed the work of the referee.
- 15,000 US dollars for the use of the laser and its fans.
