Winnie Odinga has spoken openly about his relationship with President William Ruto, revealing that since the death of his father, Raila Odinga, the leader of the country has been in regular contact with his family.

Winnie said that the leader of the nation did not abandon their family in times of grief, adding that he has been taking care of them.
“Since my father’s death, the only high-level leaders who came to inform us of the situation as a family is President William Ruto,” explained Winnie.
The EALA Member of Parliament, who in recent weeks has been critical of ODM for cooperating with the UDA party Rutohe rejected the belief that politics should be personal feelings.
Winnie recalled the day her father died in India and how the Ruto government made sure they returned to the country in time to give Raila a decent burial.
“The thing about the Kenyan society is that they like to put things like us against them. I could still love you and criticize it or vice versa, but on the personal side, if you knew the village I lived in when I was in India, and I was here within 24 hours, I must say I am grateful for the respect and honor he gave my father during that period,” he added.
Did Winnie Odinga try to influence William Ruto politically?
Winnie also denied allegations that her family was trying to influence the national leader politically, explaining her feelings during Raila’s funeral.
With carefully worded words, Winnie said her actions and words should not be viewed only from a political point of view.
He explained that his conversation with the President took place during a time of great emotion and personal, at his father’s funeral, and was not intended to indicate a political equation.
Winnie noted that her election to EALA was supported by leaders from all political parties, describing the result as an example of how a functioning democracy should be.

He emphasized that cooperation between parties should not be interpreted directly as lies or political conspiracies.
“I have not spoken on behalf of the party. I spoke at the funeral of my father who, you know, had reached his hand on the other side. I also went to EALA to get support from all sides. That is the thing about democracy that was established,” he said.
He explained the nature of his relationship with Ruto, explaining that the president has been serving his family, but their interaction was limited and formal, guided by his respect for the position he holds.
The MP emphasized that he understands the “situation of the event” and understands the importance of knowing his position in government affairs.
Winnie noted that her communication with the president is unusual and does not resemble an informal personal conversation, describing it as respectful and following protocol.
“One thing people forget is that they don’t know their position. I know my position. I urge you to send him a message like hey hey how are things man. I respect the office of the president and I also respect the voices of the people. It’s a matter of respect,” he added.
