William Ruto Expects to Win Next Election with 3 Million More Votes: “We Must Win Totally”

What vote difference is Ruto aiming to get in 2027?

Speaking at the State House on Monday, January 26, during the UDA National Council meeting, Ruto explained the need for a political strategy to win the referendum.

“We have a good score, and we have a good plan to change Kenya. We need a political strategy to win the next election and strengthen the success we get and implement the plan we have,” he said.

“That’s why elections in our party are important, and the union with ODM will now manage our changes towards the future. That’s why we have asked you to be here so that we can agree that we go back and make the right elections (on the basis) and support our cooperation with ODM,” he added.

The President revealed that his goal for the next election is a big victory with a margin of two to three million votes to unite the country.

“Last election, we won with a difference of 200,000 votes. This next election we must win with a difference of 2-3 million so that we can unite the whole country. We must win in large numbers,” he said.

In the 2022 referendum, Ruto got 7,176,141 votes, representing 50.49 percent. He was closely followed by the late former prime minister Raila Odingawho received 6,942,930 votes (48.85%).

How many candidates have expressed interest in getting the UDA ticket?

With ongoing preparations before the elections, the UDA has registered 3,803 candidates who will attend the palace on February 4, 2026.

According to the authorities, 64 people have expressed interest in getting the governor’s seat, 98 in the Senate, and 138 in the positions of women representatives.

Apparently, out of 290 states across the country, 640 candidates will seek parliamentary seats, while 2,863 people are aiming for MCA positions against the 1,450 existing wards.

Why will William Ruto win the 2027 general election?

Meanwhile, former Nyeri Member of Parliament Ngunjiri Wambugu claimed that Ruto does not need a majority of votes in Mount Kenya to win the 2027 presidential election.

He said that Raila’s death also gave Ruto more leverage, as he is the only worthy contender in the next election.

Wambugu also claimed that Raila’s cultural strongholds are currently insecure, which also puts Ruto in front of a united opposition.
