Ruai: 2 Chronic Criminals Who Have Troubled Nairobi Are Shot, Guns Found

Nairobi: Two armed men believed to be involved in a series of robberies in the capital and its suburbs have been shot dead.

It is said that the suspects stole a licensed firearm from a person, which they are using in furthering their criminal activities.

Did the Ruai robbery suspects fight the police?

According to Ruai County Deputy Intelligence Officer (DCIO) Henry Kinyua, the suspects opened fire on the officers who were pursuing them after the police received information from the public that the two were planning a robbery in Ruai.

Citizen TV reported that during the operation, the police recovered a stolen pistol, 13 bullets, five spent bullets, and two mobile phones.

The police urged the public to continue to cooperate with the law enforcement agencies while also praising the community’s cooperation in strengthening security.

The swift action received widespread praise from locals, who said the gun could have caused more casualties.

2 robbery suspects arrested in Garissa

Separately, two armed robbery suspects were arrested in Garissa following a shooting incident along the Alikune-Dagahaley Road.

Police reported that one of the suspects confessed to his crime of threatening road users and local residents.

“Officers from the Dagahaley Police Station in Garissa County, led by the Chief Officer Station (OCS) Dagahaley and in collaboration with the Dadaab Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) team, managed to track down and arrest a 26-year-old suspect inside the Dagahaley Market. After the arrest, the suspect confessed to his involvement in the crime, revealing that the gun used was specifically hired to carry out the attack,” the Police Service National said in a statement.

The suspect led the officers to a hidden area where an AK-47 rifle was found. They found the weapon wrapped in a jacket, hidden inside a gun bag, and buried underground.

Investigators also recovered a magazine containing three bullets from the area.

After being recovered, the suspect led officers to a residence in Bula Kheir Village, within the Ifo Refugee Camp, where his accomplice was arrested.

“Both suspects have been arrested by the police while investigations are ongoing. The search for one other suspect is ongoing,” the police confirmed.

At the same time, the NPS assured the public that it will strengthen vigilance within the area and fight violent crime to ensure the safety of all residents in the county.

A DCI officer’s gun is confiscated after the shooting incident in Kitengela

At the same time, in Kajiado, two locals were admitted to hospital after the senior official of DCI reportedly shot them following a confrontation in the Kitengela area.

Officers obtained CCTV footage from a nearby building amid concerns about a possible cover-up after the officer involved denied involvement.

Investigators reported that the officer was disarmed and will be suspended if found responsible for the shooting.
