Former Vice President Rigathi Gachagua has accused his successor Kithure Kindiki of being involved in disrupting his church service in Nyeri County on Sunday, January 25.

In a post on Facebook, Gachagua named one of Kindiki’s security officers, claiming the officer played a key role in the attack.
He posted a picture of Kindiki sitting with the officer behind him, saying:
“Mr. Saprano, I heard you are calling for an investigation. This is your officer who caused violence in the Witima church. You are part of the conspiracy.”

The incident happened during the morning service at the Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) Witima, Othaya.
Witnesses said police officers and masked terrorists threw teargas into the church and claimed they fired live shots, prompting worshipers to run for safety.
Women and children were harmed, some losing consciousness from the gas fumes.
During the violence, Gachagua’s Toyota Land Cruiser was set on fire, while several other vehicles in his convoy were damaged or left with crushed tires.
After the incident, Gachagua and some church leaders fled through the back wall, which caused fears that he had been captured.
His allies, including the leaders of the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP), Cleophas Malala, expressed concern about his safety.

Later, Gachagua appeared at a press conference at his Wamunyoro residence, confirming that he was not hurt but describing the attack as an assassination attempt organized by the government, organized by a “gang of killers.”

The National Police Service (NPS) has confirmed that it is investigating the incidents, while political leaders and citizens have condemned the violence, insisting that places of worship should remain places of respect.
“The Commissioner-General of the National Police Service, after being informed of the incident, has instructed the Internal Affairs Unit (IAU) to take immediate action and begin an investigation with due urgency,” NPS said in a statement.
Did Kindiki condemn the church violence in Nyeri?
TUKO.co.ke previously reported that Kindiki condemned the violence against Gachagua during the service.
He explained that any kind of political or organized violence is unacceptable and emphasized that such events destroy the freedom of assembly and worship.
Kindiki called for an independent investigation into the planners and supporters of the attack.
He stressed that the perpetrators should be arrested and prosecuted to maintain democratic principles and prevent such incidents from happening in places of worship.
The Deputy President also noted that political violence, regardless of who is planning it, violates Kenya’s laws and will threaten the democratic process.
