Does Wamuchomba support Ruto?

The outspoken member of parliament identified his new position on Monday, January 26, through a video shared on his official X account.

Wearing a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) scarf and showing two fingers to signify the second term of the president, Wamuchomba said he had made his decision.

He explained that as part of his 2026 resolution, he is ready to focus on development instead of what he called political noise.

His declaration came when President Ruto met with the National Leadership Council of the UDA at the State House, an event that brought together some leaders who were once associated with the former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Wamuchomba was among the attendees, a sign of his return to the main activities of the ruling party after months of uncertainty about his political direction.

In the video, the MP linked his political aspirations with Ruto’s second term campaign, describing them as parallel journeys.

“Mine is the third term, the president’s is the second term, let’s go to work! Work without noise. I have decided this year I want development and work, we will talk about politics later. I am at home, I am at State House for UDA,” he said with a laugh.

What is the political journey of Muchomba?

Wamuchomba’s recent declaration closes a long period of changes in political positions that put him at the center of the national debate.

He was previously a close ally of Gachagua and often appeared at his events as he tried to strengthen his influence in the Mt Kenya region.

However, when the relationship began to cool down following the Gachagua conflict with the ruling coalition, Wamuchomba began to quietly distance himself from his public activities.

He later reappeared with a group of young parliamentarians called One Kenya, identifying himself as a third force that could emerge before the 2027 elections.

The group brought together politicians from different parties and perspectives, including the Nairobi Senator Edwin SifunaMember of Parliament for Embakasi East Babu Owino, and Member of Parliament for Saboti Caleb Amisi.

At the time, the coalition was seen as an attempt to capitalize on voters’ fatigue with traditional political structures and the awakening of young people who want change.

Later, Wamuchomba changed direction again by openly praising former Interior Minister Fred Matiang’i, after the Jubilee party approved him as its presidential candidate in 2027.

He expressed confidence in the leadership ability of Matiang’i, saying his experience in the government of Uhuru Kenyatta you put him in a good position to reform the country.

However, as the country approaches the 2027 General Election, Wamuchomba now seems to have decided on a position which he suggests may be the last.

How did Wamuchomba respond to allegations of being associated with Gachagua?

In an earlier report, Wamuchomba accused the former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua of using threats to pressure the leaders of Mount Kenya to join his party Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) towards 2027.

He claimed that Gachagua repeatedly pressured him to leave the UDA and reminded him of such threats when he was opposing the 2023 Finance Bill.

Wamuchomba said Gachagua wanted all local leaders to support the DCP despite not being officially listed as a party leader.

In addition, he claimed that his allies were used to attack those who opposed him, and he asked DCP supporters to resign from their positions and seek new approval from the voters.
