Undeterred, Cheptoo left home and made the long journey to Kapsabet Police Station, hoping to get financial assistance to help him attend school.

His mother had left the village to work, sending money home, but even that was not enough to finance his education.

The officers, moved by his determination, gave him a warm welcome, gave him a drink to recover from the long walk, and listened to his story.

Irene explained that they immediately started raising money among themselves, collecting more than KSh 17,000 by the evening of Monday, January 26.

“We involved our superiors, and together we managed to collect enough for his purchase. However, we still need funds for a mattress, a box, and school uniforms. We hope to allow him to school on Tuesday, January 27, and we have already spoken to the principal, who will be expecting us,” he said.

The official noted that the Cheptoo school fee is KSh 40,535, and they have not yet reached the full amount.
