A Kiambu mother is saddened after her Form 3 Boarding School son died suddenly

Jimmy Anaro, a student of Gatamaiyu High School in Lari State, died shortly after falling ill at school.

What happened to Jimmy Anaro?

The young student said he had chest pain early in the morning, but was not allowed to leave the school for treatment.

When his condition worsened, his colleagues took him to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead while undergoing treatment.

His distraught mother, Christine Nyangweso, has expressed concern over whether her son received adequate treatment at school when he started showing signs of unwellness, and whether any emergency measures were taken to try to save his life.

Nyangweso explained that he was informed by the principal only after his son was taken to the hospital.

He expressed his fear about the delay in treatment and the lack of a school clinic.

“The teacher didn’t say much; he just casually mentioned that Jimmy had a heart problem. As far as I know, my son has never had heart problems,” he said, his voice shaking with sadness.

The school has not yet made an official statement about this matter, while the Lari police have started an investigation into the incident.

Deputy County Commissioner, Erick Mogaka, said the investigation team will work closely with the school leadership, the Ministry of Education, and the family to ensure a thorough autopsy is conducted to determine the cause of death of the young student.

Jimmy’s body was taken to General Kago Funeral Home for preservation.

The two families demanded justice and accountability in the wake of the tragedy, questioning how construction was allowed near the school.
