According to the DCP leader, a hit squad backed by local police officers attacked him in the church with the clear intention of killing him.

“I am asking thousands of my supporters who are waiting for me in Othaya and Kiawara to return home in peace, as our vehicles have been disabled and the sound systems have been broken. Please remember that the killing squad supported by the local police is everywhere in those two areas and we do not know their intentions after they failed to kill me in the church,” he said.

The former Deputy President thanked other leaders and Kenyans who condemned the violence, which he accused the President of William Ruto for being behind him.

“My thanks to all the leaders and people of Kenya for coming forward to condemn this bad act of Mr. William Ruto. God is in control and his power is greater than that of William Ruto,” he said.

According to Matiang’i, the violence witnessed in Nyeri was a clear violation of the constitutional freedom of worship and movement.

“I strongly condemn the barbaric use of tear gas against peaceful worshipers at the Witima ACK Church in Othaya. What should have been a time of prayer turned into terror, forcing men, women, children, and the elderly to flee the house of God. No Kenyan should face such torture while practicing his faith. This incident is a clear violation of the constitutional freedom to worship, assemble, and move. Those involved must be investigated freedom and responsibility without delay. Kenya must choose dialogue, the rule of law, and respect for its people, not fear and force!” Matiang’i said.
