Three brothers who tragically lost their lives in a road accident while on holiday have been cremated.

Njeri DeLeon, Emmanuel DeLeon, and Kairo Winkelpeck died on January 4, 2026, in a road accident along the Nairobi-Nakuru highway, leaving family and friends devastated.

Emmanuel and his younger brother, Kairo, died on the spot, while their older sister Njeri died from her injuries a few days later, while she was being treated at a hospital in Nairobi.

Their parents, Wangui Ndirangu and Christopher Winkelpeck, survived the accident with minor injuries.

A few days after the tragedy, family and friends organized a funeral service in their honor at the International Christian Center (ICC) along Mombasa Road in Nairobi.

The DeLeon brothers are burned

An atmosphere of sadness filled the church as mourners comforted the bereaved family. Many cried while looking at the bodies, unable to bear to see young lives taken too soon.

Darwin DeLeon, filled with grief, held each coffin, breaking down and crying loudly in pain. Close friends surrounded her, comforting her while giving her a chance to mourn her children.

Tears flowed throughout the tribute as cousins, aunts, and uncles of the deceased shared fond memories of the children.

Coffins three Small white ones were placed beside the altar, surrounded by beautiful white, yellow, and green flowers.

After the funeral service, the immediate family members transported the bodies to the Kariokor Hindu Shrine for the last rites.

Parents, visibly overcome with grief, watched as their children’s bodies were burned, marking their final farewell.

While paying his respects, Wangui expressed how he longed for more time with his children to tell them how much he loved them.

He reflected that if he had known he would lose them all at once, he would have turned back the hands of time and spent more time laughing, guiding, and loving them.

“No words can describe this moment really. This is just to describe where our hearts are. If I knew I would lose you all in one day, I would turn the hands of time and do a million different things. I would laugh with you more, I would listen more, and spend more time with you. I would be more careful, more careful, I would push you more, and say ‘I love you’ more often,” he said.

The Wangui family, who live in Waterloo, Iowa, had traveled to Kenya for a vacation, not knowing that such a tragedy awaited them.

The accident hit the headlines, causing outpourings of sympathy in Kenya and the United States.

In related news, TUKO.co.ke reported that the families of DeLeon and Wangui asked for help to raise KSh 9 million for hospital bills and funeral expenses after the tragic accident.

They started a GoFundMe page where the money was directed, explaining that global disasters are not only emotionally draining but also financially burdensome.
