Speaking during an interview with digital media on Thursday, January 22, Gachagua alleged that Junet abused the trust that Raila gave him and played an important role in sabotaging the campaign Declaration of Unity.
According to Gachagua, Junet’s recent attacks on him were misguided, saying that the ODM MP had more serious questions to answer about Raila’s failed bid.

“I saw Junet insulting me the other day, and that’s right. He stole Raila’s campaign money and defeated him. He betrayed Baba when he was alive, and he betrays him even in his death. He has a big mouth to abuse people, but he doesn’t do any work as an MP, it’s just theft,” Gachagua claimed.
The former deputy president said it is unfortunate that Junet is alleged to have stolen funds intended to support Raila’s presidential bid, especially funds allocated to pay election agents in key areas.
“Someone trusted you with money to serve the agents, and you ate the money, then the candidate failed. That is very bad. When you are called for a television interview, what you are doing is harassing the leaders,” Gachagua added.

Gachagua further claimed that Junet’s alleged actions went against moral and religious principles.
“They are not compatible with the Islamic faith. He was trusted. You are given money to help a presidential candidate, then you pour it into your pocket and make him fail. That is not right,” he said.
The outspoken politician also warned Junet about the ongoing personal attacks, saying that despite his removal from power, he is still a major political force in the country.
Gachagua stressed that the election of the President William Ruto it was largely influenced by his political support.

“Even Ruto, with whom you are now working, was elected because of my influence. Without my contribution, he would not have become president,” Gachagua said.
In a surprising statement, Gachagua warned that he will mobilize the same voting blocs to unseat Ruto in the 2027 General Election.
“I will seek the same votes to remove Ruto from power, and nothing you will do. Keep insulting us, it’s fine. We will stand for truth and justice. The time has come for the people of Northern Kenya to be helped by Kenyans with good intentions, and I am one of them,” he added.
What accusation did Sifuna make against Junet?
Gachagua’s remarks come just days after ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna made similar accusations against Junet, accusing him of playing a key role in Raila’s failed 2022 presidential bid.
Sifuna claimed that Junet received a lot of campaign money from the former President Uhuru Kenyatta intended for Azimio’s campaign but failed to deliver the money to the party or its election agents.
According to Sifuna, by allegedly taking money meant to pay agents, Junet left several key battlegrounds unprotected on election day, directly contributing to Raila’s loss to Ruto.

Did Junet lose Raila’s trust?
Since then, Junet has ignored the allegations, pointing the blame at people close to Uhuru.
He claimed the money was handled by Muhoho Kenyatta, Uhuru’s brother, through a restricted office in Westlands that many party officials could not access, including Raila himself.
Junet further emphasized that his continued appointment as Minority Leader in the National Assembly was proof that he never lost Raila’s trust.
