Ruth noted reports of a feud between her brother, ODM leader and Siaya senator Oburu Oginga, and her grandson, Winnie Odingato be made and to lead.

He said efforts to portray internal differences as family feuds are a deliberate attempt to spread division where there is none.

Ruth, however, rejected the story, arguing that being outspoken had always been part of their family culture.

“We have a family that values democracy. If Winnie held a meeting and her uncle would also hold a meeting, I think it is the same one we know. There may be many differences, but what I know is that we Odinga are always together and we will continue to be one,” said Ruth.

His words came amid public speculation that the different political positions taken by Winnie and Oburu indicate internal tension within the political family.

What did Ruth say about Winnie’s political independence?

He guaranteed Winnie’s right to speak freely, noting that her political roots and upbringing give her the right to have her own opinion.

“Like our son, I call him Nyar Kawuour, he went out and held a meeting, you know he is also young and he spoke, and even in Kibra he grew up under his father,” he said.

According to him, some of Winnie’s public words may have been misunderstood or deliberately diluted to indicate hatred against her uncle.

He emphasized that such interpretations do not take into account the close relationship between Winnie and Oburu, and showed Oburu’s significant contribution to Winnie’s upbringing.

“Many of us Odinga, even Winnie, have been brought up by Oburu. You know his father used to go to and from prison, but Oburu is like a father to him, so I don’t think he can come to fight with his uncle as people say,” he explained, adding that the allegations of conflict between them had been reduced or increased.

Ruth questioned the motive behind the alleged split, suggesting that confusion has been created even about the family’s roots to further the story.

He traced the Odinga family tree to show that all members of the community come from the same tree, denying the attempt to create artificial boundaries between “Oginga” and “Odinga.”

“Firstly, what surprises me is who is Odinga or Oginga, because we are all children of Oginga from Oburu, whether it is Raila, Ogolla, Akinyi Wenwa, or me, Adhiambo, even Nyangi and all the other children. Our father was known as Oginga, who was Odinga’s son and that Odinga was Raila’s son. So I wonder which Oginga against Odinga is this? That is the first thing that shows it is something created to create division,” he said.
