Through a Facebook post on Thursday, January 22, Ruth said she supports a broad-based government but is not in the “tutam” or “wantam” camp.

“I spoke as a founding member of the ODM Central Party. I am not in ‘Tutam’ or ‘Wantam’. But I am fully present in the integrated government, whose chief architect, the late Prime Minister, saw fit to leave the ODM family there, on the condition of the ten-point agenda,” said Ruth.

Why is Ruth Odinga opposing the coalition talks between Oburu and Ruto?

However, Ruth opposed the recent decision of the party’s Central Management Committee (CMC), which gave her brother Oburu Oginga the authority to start pre-2027 coalition talks with the President William Ruto.

Ruth, who is the former Prime Minister’s sister Raila Odingawarned the ODM party against binding themselves in a coalition agreement a year before the general election.

“ODM should not be in a hurry to enter into a coalition agreement as if it were some emergency. The year 2027 is not going anywhere. Even if ODM stays silent and does nothing, 2027 will arrive. The Central Management Committee (CMC) sat a few days ago in Kilifi. This is a very important party tool. The next step is that we expect the Chairman of the party to call a meeting of the National Leadership Committee (NEC) so that the leadership has the opportunity to share ideas on the best way forward,” he said.

He criticized the leadership of the party for deciding to start coalition talks without listening to the views of the members, adding that ODM is a people’s party.

“We cannot pretend to reach any decision that binds the members of the party before listening to the people. The ODM party is a people’s movement. Our membership extends from Turkana to Kwale. From Wajir to Isebania. We must start thinking about public meetings of the members (Townhall meetings), listening to them about their challenges, which must be included in the final decision that the party will reach,Ruth said.

Who sponsors ODM meetings?

The women MP of Poisonous he questioned the source of funds that ODM leaders have been using to hold meetings and motivate members to support the coalition talks between Oburu and Ruto.

According to Ruth, the government has not given political party funds to ODM, while it seems that money is being given by people who are trying to bring the Orange party into the coalition.

“But we see a situation where a lot of money is moving, and there seems to be a deliberate strategy to bind ODM to a coalition agreement more than a year before the next general election. Where does this money come from? Is it in the Budget and Expenditure Committee of the National Assembly? And I know that the government has not sent money to the ODM party. So, where does all this money come from? Those who are pushing ODM to close now can see its benefits. Whether it is for their own interest or for the benefit of all members. But early closing means you will bear all the blame that the ruling party will be accused of,” added Raila’s sister.
