The county leader made it clear that he believes the incident was a deliberate plan, occurring only a few days after most of his government guards were removed.
Was Wamatangi being persecuted?
Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, January 20, the governor said the incident involved a white car with three people who seemed to be closely monitoring his movements.
He said that the incident increased his fear and forced him to speak publicly, especially due to the recent changes in the arrangement of his protection.

Wamatangi told reporters that the incident of alleged surveillance happened when he already felt in danger following the removal of the police officers who were protecting him.
According to the governor, all the officers attached to his protection were removed on Thursday, January 15, and Friday, January 16, while only two were returned later.
“I only have two left, but today’s incident gives me great anxiety because before I was fine even traveling without bodyguards, but now it is something to fear,” said Wamatangi.
What is the request of Wamatangi?
Narrating what he experienced, the governor said the people inside the car did not try to identify themselves or contact him directly, a situation that increased his doubts about their intentions.
Although he admitted that in the past he used to travel freely even sometimes without bodyguards, he said that the current situation has completely changed.
According to the governor, the way they were doing their things showed that it was not an ordinary event.
“They tried to look like they were busy with their own affairs, but the truth is that they were monitoring my movements. The whole incident shows me that there was an evil intention, and for that reason it is important to bring it to the public. I don’t want to be a spreader of rumours, but such people may not have had good intentions,” said Wamatangi.

“I expect immediate steps to be taken to ensure that when I travel, my safety is considered and my life is protected like that of any other Kenyan, an elected leader, especially at this time when, for reasons unknown to me, I seem to be the attraction of certain interests,” he said.
