He sought help from a neighbor after realizing that he was getting weaker.

“It was around eight o’clock in the morning, I felt something strange. I felt very hot in my body. I went out of the house, and when I came back I didn’t see anyone. Then I knocked on the neighbor’s house and told him how I was feeling. I asked him to bring me cold water and pour me,” he said.

The incident happened at night when her boyfriend, Simon Mwangi Maina, suddenly turned violent during what started as a normal evening.

When Nelly was preparing her food, Mwangi fetched hot water, then faced her with a kettle and poured the boiling water on her.

In the violence, she managed to get her child and nanny out safely while Mwangi approached her mercilessly, before the neighbors intervened and rushed her to the hospital while the suspect escaped.

Nelly, who suffered burns to 25 percent of her body, later reported the incident at the Kiambu Police Station under OB number 03/29/08/2024.

The two used to have good times together, as seen in the earlier pictures of their lives.

Nelly, a finance professional, had helped Mwangi set up his business, but conflicts arose when he refused to move in with her, choosing to focus on his work while he built himself up financially.

The man escaped after the attack, while the police launched a manhunt to find him.
