NTSA Closes Guardian Coach, Greenline, Nanyuki Express and Others Due to Constant Accidents

The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has taken strict action against six public transport vehicles (PSV) operators.

Authorities have suspended their licenses indefinitely due to serious accidents and systemic safety failures recorded in December 2025 and early January 2026.

In a press release issued on January 19, 2026, the authority cited frequent violations of speeding regulations, failure to comply with the KS standard. 2295-2023, and non-compliance with PSV 2014 Operating Regulations as grounds for suspension.

NTSA has advised citizens not to ride in cars Saccos and Suspended Companies.

“To this end, the public is advised not to board the vehicles of Saccos/Companies that are suspended, as this action is part of our unwavering commitment to ensure high standards of passenger safety and compliance with road safety laws.” NTSA said.

Which public transport vehicle companies have been banned by NTSA?

NTSA listed the following companies and incidents of serious accidents that caused it to take the action:

Guardian Coach Limited

The accident that happened on January 6, 2026, along the Nairobi-Naivasha Road in Kimende. The company was given 21 days to comply with strict conditions or face permanent suspension.

Nanyuki Express Cab Services Ltd

The accident that happened on January 4, 2026, along the Nakuru-Nairobi Highway in Karai. The company was also given 21 days to comply with the conditions.

Monna Comfort Sacco

The accident that happened on December 23, 2025, along the Eldoret-Webuye Road in Muhonje. His activities were immediately suspended.

Greenline Company Ltd

The accident that happened on January 4, 2026, along the Nakuru-Nairobi Highway in Karai. His activities were immediately suspended.

Naekana Route 134 Sacco Ltd

The accident that happened on January 2, 2026, along the Mombasa-Nairobi Road in Konza. His activities were immediately suspended.

Uwezo Coast Shuttle

The fatal accident that happened on January 6, 2026, along the Muhoroni-Londiani Road in the Tunnel. Its operations were immediately suspended and the company also failed to honor NTSA’s summons.

What are the severe penalties given by NTSA?

The authorities have ordered several punitive and corrective measures against the affected operators.

Each company must submit its entire fleet, from 19 to 128 vehicles, for a mandatory speed limiter performance check and a full compliance check at designated vehicle inspection stations.

NTSA has also revoked the PSV approval of 99 drivers in the six companies, suspended their driving licenses for 90 days, and ordered that they be immediately removed from all driving duties before undergoing mandatory tests again.

Operators must also demonstrate compliance with strict night transportation safety requirements, including valid permits, fatigue management systems, passenger placards, up-to-date ship maintenance records, and approved internal security protocols.

Additionally, companies are required to submit employee contracts, six months’ salary records, and proof of statutory payment to NSSFNHIF, and PAYE.

The authorities have also instructed the Traffic Department to impound any of their vehicles found operating illegally during the suspension period.

Operators will only be considered for reinstatement after fully fulfilling all requirements and undergoing a safety audit conducted by NTSA itself.

Did Nairobi Sacco fire the driver?

In separate news, Nairobi Sacco that does its business on Riruta Satellite road has fired the driver and conductor after a video showed a tycoon pushing a woman on the road and almost causing her to enter a ditch.

The incident, caught on a speed camera and shared online, sparked public outrage and calls for action against PSV’s reckless behaviour.

NTSA confirmed that the two were disengaged and that the driver’s license was suspended after he failed a re-test.

The authority urged Kenyans to report reckless driving through its official channels, noting that suspended drivers cannot join other Saccos without retraining.
